Provo City, in partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), prepared an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to evaluate a new roadway connection to Interstate 15 and the Provo Airport. In January of 2012, the Federal Highway Administration issued a Record of Decision approving the preferred alignment, shown above, for the roadway. See the Past Environmental Study tab for additional details on the EIS.
Provo City and UDOT are now designing the project. During this phase, engineers are expanding upon work completed during the EIS and a final set of construction plans will be developed.
The design includes two travel lanes, one lane in each direction and a multi-use trail south of the roadway. When additional funding becomes available two more travel lanes, one in each direction, and a center turn lane will be added to the roadway.
Property acquisitions are needed for the project. Impacted property owners will be contacted by the project team to discuss the right-of-way process. Property will be acquired for the entire length and width of the roadway. Some additional property adjacent to the roadway will also need to be acquired for a wetland mitigation site. Currently, construction is scheduled to begin late summer 2013 and will occur in phases over multiple years depending on funding. |
